
Ingredients
Grape leaves
- 10 oz prepared grape leaves
Filling
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 onions, grated
- 1 1/2 cups rice, rinsed
- 1 tbsp currants
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp dried mint
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup boiling water
Water for simmering
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1/4 cup olive oil
Instructions
- Fry the onions in olive oil for 3 minutes.
- Add in the rice, spices, currants & tomato paste; stir for 2 minutes.
- Add 1 cup of boiling water, and simmer on low for 5 minutes.
- Fill each grape leaf with one heaping spoonful of the filling, and wrap tightly (like you would wrap up a burrito!)
- Put a layer of empty grape leaves on the bottom & sides of a deep pot, and line the pot with the stuffed leaves.
- Add boiling water & oil. Cover and simmer for 35 minutes.
**I served this with garlic yogurt & melted butter mixed with some dried mint and paprika in it**
